Do you have rev matching mastered?

Eric does.

Though in all fairness, it IS sorta rev matching. I do a similar thing if I have to downshift in the cruiser to smooth out the shift. More accurately I would call it load matching since you are unloading the transmission by temporarily matching the load to the engine speed. I think he’s vastly overestimating his skill and its importance though and its still super cringe.

There are few things that broadcast “I don’t know cars but I think I do ” as much as a decepticon sticker though. It’s a clear a message as rockstar wheels on a lifted pickup signifying “I don’t need this truck, I just wanted it.”

After shattering my kneecap a few years ago I did a 160 mile trip in the Miata without using a clutch. Just revmatched all the shifts. Got pretty good by the end of the day!

I got okay doing that in my rav4, but I realized after a while I was doing my synchros no favors.

It's not that hard to this at all. Though semiautos still aren't happy sometimes at slower speeds.

I think he will soon decide he needs a manual.

That’s what happened to me with my first car, I learned to start “load matching” the auto when downshifting. M uch of the time I preferred to select the gears manually with the gearshift.  E ven though I didn’t know how to drive a stick at the time, it was then I decided I needed to be driving a manual haha. Maybe a year after that I totaled that car and bought a manual car. Have always had at least one manual in my fleet since then.

I had a manual Jeep Patriot, and, well... i did my best. The throttle lag and rev hang from the electronic throttle and the disposable plastic master cylinder didn’t do me any favors. But if you could anticipate what the throttle was going to do, it wasn’t impossible. Just not intuitive.

I can do this in my Isuzu pretty well but I don’t make a habit of it.

What a spectacular waste of time. And that poor transmission.

The Mini’s pedals are so perfectly placed for heel toe shifting.

Yes!

Even the Vette's are good for that

What if you do need your truck, but are too poor to swap out the ugly wheels the PO put on? Asking for a friend...

Another way to tell someone doesn’t know as much about cars as they think they do is when they rip out their exhaust speeding into a parking garage, and then just drive around with their exhaust tied to their car.

its the good old 6x5.5 pattern, you should be able to find something cheap from just about any toyota truck ever. the offset is +15 and the width is 7 to 7.5 hub bore is 106?

16" wheels - Width: 7", Offset: +15mm, Backspacing: 4.5", Hub Bore Diameter = 106mm

17" wheels - Width: 7.5", Offset: +18mm, Backspacing: 5", Hub Bore Diameter = 106mm

looks like similar year 16 inch tacoma wheels are a direct fit, same story with the 4runner or sequoia . you should be able to find some cheap wheels on a forum or local classifieds and sell those abominations for about sixes.

These could work.

Holy shit, I had no idea factory Toyota wheels were so cheap. I put my dad’s factory Chevy wheels with worn out tires up on CL a few years ago for $250 expecting them to sit for a bit. Had thirty replies in the first hour. They were 18s, so maybe that makes a difference, but the guy who replied first was driving a clapped out Tahoe with glitter tint and dubs .

These wheels will be swapped over the weekend. Gonna grab those 17” Sequoia wheels from Gilbert.

Thanks for the heads up on all the specs.

one thing you can count on is people ditching the excellent stock wheels for some crap stuff for some reason. Seriously these JJT labeled alloys are tough.
